Established Professional Scholarship

Overview
OHIMA has established a scholarship program to recognize and award Health Information Management professionals who continue their life long learning, envision the future, and embrace the spirit of Vision 2010.

Twice a year, OHIMA will grant monetary awards to reimburse credentialed members for expenses incurred while pursuing his/her life long learning.


Qualifications
  • Applicant must be an active member of AHIMA with Ohio as the official state designation.

  • Applicant must be credentialed.

  • Applicant must be applying for funds to continue his/her life long learning. The following roles defined by AHIMA are examples of our vision for 2010:
  • Clinical Data Specialist
  • Patient Information Coordinator
  • Data Quality Manager
  • Document and Repository Manager
  • Research and Decision Support Analyst
  • Security Officer
  • Privacy Officer

  • Award Eligibility
  • Scholarship awards may be applied to books, newsletters, seminar registrations, software programs, OHIMA events, and tuition. Travel, hotel, and food expenses are not eligible for reimbursement.

  • Only expenses personally responsible by the applicant are eligible. Funds reimbursed by any other source such as employer, corporation, or government are not eligible.

  • Scholarship to an individual will be limited to one per association year (July 1st to June 30th).


    Award Timeframe
  • Funds may be awarded for paid expenses incurred from July 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007..

    APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 31, 2008

  • Scholarships will be awarded by March 1, 2008. A report will be published on the OHIMA website identifying any corporate sponsorships and the number of award recipients.


    Application Process
  • Qualified individuals may apply for a scholarship by completing the Online Scholarship Application.

  • Applicants will be asked to explain how the award for reimbursement will assist in the transition to or advancement in Vision 2010 roles. A description of personal involvement as a role model for life long learning is also requested as part of the application process.

  • Proof of attendance or payment will be required for all applicant submissions for reimbursement of expenses. Copy of paid receipts, cancelled checks or certificate of attendance from seminars are examples of proof. Necessary supporting documentation is the responsibility of the applicant - please do not contact the OHIMA Central Office for this information.

  • The amount of the scholarship will be at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee. The total amount available may be awarded to one individual or distributed among many individuals. The amount that one individual receives cannot exceed $550.00.
