Call for Nominations: 2012-2013 Ballot


    Ohio has gained national recognition due to the high level of energetic and passionate volunteer involvement. With your help, we can continue the tradition by nominating highly qualified and experienced members for the following open positions on the 2012-13 OHIMA Board. The term of office will begin July 1, 2012.

    Descriptions for each position are provided below but if you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us.

    There are five face-to-face Board meetings scheduled for the association year that runs July 1 through June 30. Meetings are held in the Columbus area. Three are only for the Executive Board, two meetings are for the Full Board.

    We encourage you to seek one of the OHIMA elected positions below or assist our Nominating Committee by identifying OHIMA members who will provide strong leadership for OHIMA in the years ahead. Nomination Deadline: November 16, 2011

    Prerequisite for Running on OHIMA Ballot: 2011 Active AHIMA Member who resides in Ohio and/or has chosen Ohio as their state association. Included in the active member category are seniors, honorary, and new graduate members.

    In addition, those running for the delegate position must have served on a regional or state HIM board of directors.


    2012-13 OPEN BALLOT POSITIONS

    PRESIDENT ELECT (Elect 1)
    Serves as a member of the Executive Board of Directors for three years; as President-Elect (first year), President (second year), and Past President (third year). Responsibilities include:
      Manages a strategy as President-Elect and attends the AHIMA Leadership Conference in Chicago (July);
      Presides over the OHIMA Board meetings as President; serves as 1st year delegate; attends AHIMA Team Talks and Leadership Conference in Chicago (July); attends the AHIMA National Convention (October); and attends AHIMA Team Talks & Hill Day in Washington, DC (March). The President also serves as the spokesperson of the association and speaks on behalf of OHIMA and the HIM profession;
      Serves as 2nd year delegate as Past-President/Delegate Coordinator and attends the AHIMA Team Talks in Chicago (July), and the AHIMA House of Delegates (October).

      Previous state board experience is strongly recommended for those running for the position of President Elect.

    DIRECTOR: (Elect 2)
    Serves as a member of the Executive Board of Directors for two years. Responsibilities include:
      Responsible for managing a strategy and fulfilling the projects associated with this strategy;
      Appoints volunteer Project Leaders as necessary to carry out the activities of the assigned strategy;
      Represents the association at meetings and speaks on behalf of OHIMA and the HIM profession when needed.

    DELEGATE: (Elect 1)
    Serves as full board member for two years as OHIMA's representative to the AHIMA House of Delegates.
      Meets to discuss business to be presented at the House of Delegates;
      Gather members’ opinions and votes on items/proposals;
      Decides on actions taken by OHIMA.

      Due to the discussions and decisions required of the position, previous state board experience is strongly recommended for those running for the position of Delegate.

    NOMINATING COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN: (Elect 1)
    Serves as full board member for one year. Is elected by the membership to:
      Works with the Nominating Committee (comprised of the Regional Association Presidents) and the OHIMA Board to solicit nominations;
      Contacts candidates to ensure their willingness to run on the ballot;
      Assures candidate qualifications are submitted by the deadline;
      Submits finalized ballot to the Board;
      Notifies all ballot candidates of election outcome and announces election results at the Annual Meeting.


    BONUS! All newly elected Executive Board members (President-Elect and Directors) are invited to attend the AHIMA Leadership Conference held in Chicago in July, 2012. Please note that for any positions that involve attendance at AHIMA events, the lodging, travel, and meeting expenses will be reimbursed by OHIMA as detailed in the OHIMA Reimbursement Policy.
