What is SNOMED CT?
SNOMED Clinical Terms® (SNOMED CT®) is a comprehensive clinical terminology that makes healthcare information accessible and usable throughout the world. It provides a “common language” comprised of concepts, terms and relationships that enables a consistent way of capturing, sharing and aggregating health data across clinical specialties and sites of care.
SNOMED CT® resulted from the merge of SNOMED® Reference Terminology (SNOMED® RT) developed by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Clinical Terms Version 3 (CTV3) developed by the National Health Service (NHS) of the United Kingdom.
As a comprehensive clinical reference terminology, it enables clinicians, researchers and patients to share comparable data while facilitating enhanced health reporting, billing and statistical
analysis.
