PROGRAM SUMMARY

This one-day seminar will feature a lecture by an orthopedic surgeon regarding spinal disorders. Other important topics include information on how to prepare for RACs, a discussion of POA Indicator reporting requirements, as well as the 2009 IPPS/OPPS/ASCPPS updates and upcoming ICD-9 changes.

Effective October 1, 2008, Medicare will limit hospital reimbursement for certain selected conditions when those conditions are reported as not present on admission. Learn the history of POA reporting and how CMS plans to expand the selected conditions in future years. Ms. Lewallen will also discuss various strategies to effectively manage the challenges presented by this new reporting requirement and mitigate risk for your organization.

Ms. Wissler is currently an independent consultant specializing in DRG audits. She has recently been involved in the RAC pilot program in the State of Florida. She will speak about her observations and will share her experience at one Florida hospital system so that you can benefit and prepare as the RAC’s roll out to all fifty states.

Dr. Chunduri will discuss his treatment of a variety of operative and non-operative spinal disorders in the neck, mid-back, and lower back. These include herniated discs, spinal stenosis, instability, fractures, and scoliosis. He will also discuss minimally invasive spinal surgery and motion preservation (non-fusion) technologies.

IPPS/OPPS/ASCPPS Update

Ms. Casto will present the major changes that will be implemented under IPPS for federal fiscal year 2009. Additionally, Ms. Casto will highlight the proposed changes published in OPPS and ASCPPS proposed rule for the calendar year 2009.

Ms. Bronnert will review the 2009 code changes for ICD-9. Learn what new, deleted and revised codes will impact you and how they will affect your current coding practices



In an attempt to reduce consumption and waste, OHIMA will be offering a paperless option for the speaker handouts.

New this year, you may choose a CD containing speaker presentations in lieu of the printed handouts. The CD will be distributed at the meeting and choosing this option will also give you the opportunity to view/print speaker handouts from our website prior to the meeting. Speaker presentations will be available online one week prior to the seminar for only those registering for the CD option.

All registrations received after the Early Bird deadline of 9/22 will automatically receive the CD option.

CE CREDITS

This program meets the AHIMA CE Guidelines for 6.0 hours of continuing education in the HIM Domain of Clinical Foundations.

This program is also is approved for 6.0 hours Continuing Education Units from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION FEES (after 9/22, fees increase $15)

$125 for OHIMA Members (Current active AHIMA members residing in or choosing Ohio as state association).
$150 for Non-OHIMA Members
$ 35 for OHIMA Student Members* (Current student AHIMA members residing in or choosing Ohio as state association - see below for further definition).
$ 35 for active DQRC Members (Active DQRC members identified as eligible by DQRC Chairperson)

* DEFINITION OF STUDENT MEMBER: Students who do not have an AHIMA credential and have not previously been Active members of AHIMA and have chosen Ohio as state association. Must also meet at least one of two educational criterias:
    1. currently enrolled in an accredited CAHIIM HIM program
    2. currently enrolled in an approved AHIMA medical coding program
Note that 'New Graduate Members' do not qualify for the student rate.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Register by Monday, 9/22/08 to receive the Early Bird discount. Fees increase $15 as of 9/23/08. If paying by check, registration and payment must be postmarked and mailed no later than September 22nd. After this date, only credit card payments will be accepted through Thursday, 9/24. Onsite registrations will be accepted but will incur an additional $15 fee. Credit card payments will be not be accepted onsite - only cash or check.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Registration fees will be refunded (less a $20 processing fee) if notice is received by Friday, September 19, 2008. No refund will be issued for cancellations received after this date. Substitutions of registrants is permitted, please contact OHIMA with your name and the name, employer, and title of your substitute.
