Project Leader Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a Project Leader?

A Project Leader is a volunteer member of the OHIMA Board of Directors who is assigned a project in order to accomplish a goal of a strategy. Project leaders work with their assigned Strategy Manager, an elected member of the Executive Board.

What are the benefits of serving as Project Leader?

In addition to personal growth and meeting interesting people throughout the state, Project Leaders who successfully complete a project get one day of their registration free waived to attend the OHIMA Annual Meeting. But most importantly ... it is fun!

How much time committment is involved with becoming a Project Leader?

It depends on the project, but usually no more than a few (2-3) hours total for the project itself - not including the time spent participating in Board meetings.

How many Board meetings are you asked to attend as Project Leader?

There will be two face-to-face full Board meetings that Project Leaders are expected to attend in September and March. Both meetings will be held in Columbus. Project Leaders are also asked required to participate in any Virtual/Online Board Meetings throughout the year.

What are Virtual or Online Board Meetings?

These are meetings conducted through our website. This online format has been developed in an attempt to increase board member participation while decreasing time and cost involved with traveling to Columbus.

Are the face-to-face Board meetings formal?

No, comfortable, casual dress is always encouraged when attending the Board meetings. Though much business is discussed at the meetings, the atmosphere is relaxed.

How long do I serve as Project Leader?

The association year begins in July and runs through June. You can also choose to remain as Project Leader for multiple years!

I really have not been involved with anything on the state level, can I still serve as Project Leader?

Absolutely! Just complete the online Project Leader Information Form on previous page and you will be contacted about how you can serve. Although it is a volunteer position, one of the most important qualities of a good Project Leader is the ability to commit to and follow through on a project.

I am currently a student, can I serve as Project Leader?

Though we appreciate and encourage student involvement, first priority for project leader assignments will be given to active OHIMA members. As a student, you are encouraged to participate as a committee member or project team member. When completing the project leader form, just indicate as such in the comment section.
