Building an Effective Coding Education and Compliance Program

Do you have a coding and education compliance program at your facility? Have you wanted to build a coding compliance program but didn’t know where to start?  In this webinar, we will discuss in depth the benefits of a compliance program and the seven steps outlined in the OIG Compliance Program Guidance for Hospitals.  In addition, we will give an overview of the elements of a local hospital coding compliance program.  Included in the overview will be the functions of each member of the compliance team, the reviews performed on a daily, quarterly, and bi-annual basis, and the method of communication to the coders for both inpatient and outpatient audits.  The training and education portion of the Compliance team is also discussed in regard to basic training outlines for both inpatient and same-day surgery coders, along with the ongoing quarterly education for all coders. Upon completion of this webinar, you will have everything you need in your toolbox to implement an effective coding compliance and education program.

The Power of Data: Using Analytics to Reduce Denials

Healthcare organizations accumulate large amounts of data on a daily basis. Having a clear, holistic picture of your revenue management data using analytics is an effective tool in the reduction of denials. Data is power. Data analytics allows for the identification of problem areas and insight to determine the appropriate modification to internal processes. In this session, learn how to make data work for your organization, steps to implement a denials program, and how analytics can transform your revenue management.

The Role & Risks of the HIM Professional Regarding Medical Billing Fraud & Abuse

The HIM professional is THE most important asset in the prevention and detection of medical billing fraud and abuse that often involves litigation. The goals of the program include identification of the skills, methodology and case studies for the HIM Professional's potential as a qualified expert in litigation regarding Usual, Customary and Reasonable Charges.

Navigating the Privacy Concerns, Especially in a Post-Roe World

The U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling reversing the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision has forced many states to consider updating their legislation on the topic of abortion. The polarizing nature of this ruling means that covered entities and their practices will be in the cross-hairs of additional state and federal legislation. State legislation may mean health agencies’ designated record sets (DRS) must include (or exclude) information relating to pregnancy or reproductive health. These potentially new regulations could create additional sensitive information categories for electronic medical record (EMR) systems to manage, and, especially, for release of information (ROI) professionals to navigate. This presentation will discuss this, along with some helpful ways to ensure your EMRs are setup and staff are trained to manage this every changing landscape.

Information Governance for Sensitive Records

Behavioral health and substance abuse records are covered by specific state and federal laws but appropriate access to this information is still extremely important for continuity of care. We will discuss the importance of information governance as it relates to behavioral health records and what you need to know to create ideal policies on the HIPAA Privacy Rule, the Right to Access provision, Release of Information, Health Information Exchange (HIE), and record retention in compliance with the specific regulations.

Automation and the Revenue Cycle: How to Accelerate Performance and Support Short-Handed Teams

Healthcare's labor shortage has touched every facet of health system operations. It's left many hospitals and ambulatory practices without the talent necessary to navigate medical coding complexities and avoid denials consistently. This dearth of talent directly undermines financial performance. Health system leaders are turning to technology to optimize coder abilities, reduce labor costs, and cut down on denials. Autonomous coding supported by artificial intelligence offers organizations a more efficient way to code and accelerates revenue cycle performance.

During this session, you'll learn:

How technology can transform medical coding.
How to create meaningful coding workflows.

How to assess return on investment and measure success through key performance indicators.

Utilizing HIM Analytics for Optimized Quality and Reimbursement

HIM analytical tools can provide targeted education to improve coding quality, identify specific groupings of MS-DRG's to pinpoint lost revenue, and solidify future revenue through training and process improvement. In addition, other analytical HIM solutions such as Capture Rate Analytics (CC/MCC), telehealth reimbursement evaluation and staff productivity are vital to program success. Automated and targeted coding quality reviews are a valuable tool for educating both physicians and coders in an effort to improve coding quality, compliance and reimbursement. In this session, we will discuss how finding the right analytical tools can be used to ensure optimal coding quality and reduce the potential of lost reimbursement, resulting in improved cash flow.

Coding Breast Procedures in ICD-10-PCS & CPT

Building on the detailed presentations by our physician speakers on breast surgery and reconstruction, join OHIMA’s Education Coordinator Dianna Foley, for an in-depth look at coding for these procedures in both ICD-10-PCS and CPT. She’ll discuss the appropriate application of the root operations Excision and Resection related to both breast and lymph node procedures. Dianna will discuss the distinctions between biopsies and excisions, as well as covering the various types of breast reconstruction procedures that follow mastectomy.
